Our booking terms are sent to you with your quotation, before you pay anything. This page sets out the government rules that apply to every booking, whoever you travel with, and how the information on this website should be read.
Booking and payment
Cancellation
Two parts of the price are set by the government and follow its rules, not ours:
- The visa fee of US$40 is not refunded once an application has been made.
- The Sustainable Development Fee is refunded by the government for nights not spent in Bhutan, less bank charges, after the date of departure.
Visas and entry
We apply for visas on behalf of travellers who book with us, using the details they give us. A visa is granted or refused by the Department of Immigration, not by us. You are responsible for holding a passport valid for at least six months, and any visa needed for the countries you travel through, including India if you enter or leave Bhutan by road.
Insurance, health and fitness
Travel insurance is not required by the government, but we strongly recommend it. You are responsible for judging whether you are fit for the trip you book, and for telling us of any medical condition that could affect it. On a trek, your guide's decision on safety, including a decision to turn back or to send a walker down, is final.
Guides, hotels and changes on the ground
Guides are certified, and hotels and campsites approved, by the Department of Tourism. Roads in Bhutan can be closed by weather, and flights delayed or cancelled. When that happens we rearrange the itinerary as best we can.
Festival dates
Festival dates are published by the authorities as tentative and can change.
Liability, complaints and governing law
Using this website
- Itineraries are examples. The trips described here are routes we offer. The itinerary you travel on is the one in your confirmed booking.
- Prices. Where a page shows no price, the price is on request. A price becomes binding only when we confirm it to you in writing.
- Rules and fees change. Pages that state government rules, fees or dates show the date on which they were last checked, with their sources. Confirm anything that matters with us before you book.
- Photographs are credited on the photo credits page.
